The Longer Story of my Journey

YOGA has been a pathway to access the deepest expression of myself, to recognize and move beyond the limiting beliefs and restricting habits, and to be freed, even momentarily, into being the power of presence that I am. Yoga helps me meet the present moment, fresh and new.

My journey into yoga began in my late teens, with somatic-based movement and asana interwoven into my study of modern dance. Movement was a doorway to inquiry into the state of my body-mind and a vehicle for transforming stuck and rigid places of anxiety, fear and tension, little by little, into deeper expressions of freedom. Through an intense study of multiple dance forms and somatic practices, a fine arts degree in modern dance, a career as a performer, and a self-guided exploration into various movement styles and techniques with master artists, I developed a hunger for exploring the range of movement potential and expression of freedom through my moving body that is life-long.

In 2010, while living in New York City, I began exploring meditation and asana, and discovered a calling to take a break from the intense rigor and self-sabotaging world of dance, and attend to my nervous system with a deep dive into yoga practice. I trained in Dynamic Hatha Yoga with Robin Buck and Matthew & Holly Krepps, in St. Louis, MO, and began offering yoga in 2011. I was invited to apprentice with Matt & Holly at their residential yoga teacher training center & farm, Circle Yoga Shala, in Jasper, AR, where I lived for two years, in a traditional teacher-aspirant relationship, immersed in yoga practice, self-inquiry, sustainable living, intentional community, and native wisdom traditions. It was there that I developed a love for living on the land, a devotion to the path of yoga, and met my partner in life. We relocated to the Bay area with the intention of creating a California-based yoga center to pass on the wisdom that was shared so generously with us.

Over the last decade, the wisdom of the teachings has been working it’s way through my cells, as I integrate the practices of self-inquiry, devotion and daily practice into my daily life and life’s work. In 2020, I began studying with Janet Stone, who’s teachings are illuminating the path of Sadhana (committed daily practice), Bhakti (devotion), and being a living expression of yoga. My teaching is infused with the impression that her humor, lightness, integrity, power and presence leaves on me, and I offer the teachings that have been passed down to me by my teachers and integrated into my being to the best of my ability.

Now living in Carmel Valley, California, my life is filled with purpose and meaning, as I work to co-create a beautiful retreat space, sustainable farm and home for yoga in these mountains. Weaving the practice of yoga into the art of sustainable living feels like the fullest expression of a life lived with intention, self-care and reverence. The daily attention that goes into caring for the land, gardens, animals and spaces informs my practice of cultivating attention to living yoga and sustaining self-inquiry in all aspects of life, be it milking a goat, watering the plants, or sitting in meditation, all are opportunities to become more present with reality and breathe into full presence and gratitude.

My aim is to deepen my own embodiment of these teachings so that my offering is a living expression of presence in action, devotion in motion. Every opportunity to share yoga feels like the greatest gift. In sharing what brings so much healing, joy and discovery to my life, my prayer is that it allows you to discover something new about yourself and find a home within your own being.
